Monday, May 27 was Memorial Day. It was a beautiful, sunny day with comfortable temperatures and a gentle breeze blowing off the water at a ceremony held at Navarre Park. The day meant many things to different people in attendance, but U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Michael “Dane” Acord best put it in perspective. “It is not about department store sales, boating, barbecues or the start of summer,” Acord said. “It is about pausing briefly to honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
