U.S. archer Khatuna Lorig, who trained actor Jennifer Lawrence for Lawrence’s role as the bow-slinging heroine in “The Hunger Games,” has competed in five Olympics Games for three nations. Lorig was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, then a member of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, on New Year’s Day 1974. She competed for the post-Soviet dissolution Confederation of Independent States’ Unified Team at the 1992 Barcelona Games and for the new Republic of Georgia’s teams at Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney, Australia in 2000. She became a United States citizen before the 2004 Athens games and is appearing in her second Olympics for the American team.

A weekly radio show about Pensacola’s minor league baseball team on Friday will feature interviews with Bill Bavasi of the Cincinnati Reds and Pensacola first baseman Donald Lutz. The Blue Wahoos, which play in the Southern League, are Cincinnati’s Double-A affiliate.

“Inside the Blue Wahoos,” hosted by Paul Chesnutt and Ryan Bonifant, airs at 11 a.m. Fridays on 1450 ESPN and ESPNPensacola.com from Bob Tyler Toyota in Pensacola’s Car City. The program features information about the Wahoos’ and Cincinnati Reds’ coaches, managers, players and executives

Bavasi, the son of longtime Major League Baseball executive Buzzi Bavasi and former general manager and vice-president of baseball operations for the Seattle Mariners, works as a special assistant to Reds’ general manager Walt Jocketty. Bavasi also was general manager of the Anaheim Angels from 1994-1999.

Lutz, 23, was born in Watertown, N.Y. A citizen of the United States and Germany, Lutz is hitting .233with a pair of homers and three runs-batted-in for the Wahoos in 11 games. He has a .280 average with 48 home runs and 191 RBIs in five minor league seasons.

The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber will host its annual Breakfast of Champions at 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the first floor conference room of the Andrews Performance and Research Pavilion.
