Wahoos' Hamilton chasing steals record

Billy Hamilton is a master thief. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos’ shortstop has stolen 122 bases in 2012 and needs just 24 in the Wahoos’ 29 remaining games to tie Vince Coleman’s record 145 steals in a single season. Coleman, who went on to star for the St. Louis Cardinals, set the mark as a minor league player in 1983. Rickey Henderson holds the career and single-season stolen base records for Major League Baseball with 1,406 overall and 130 or the Oakland A’s in 1982.

Hamilton started the season with the Bakersfield Blaze, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Hamilton stole 104 bases in 82 games at Bakersfield before being promoted to Double-A Pensacola.
