This year’s Navarre High School basketball team is an unknown quantity to the average fan since all of the starters from last year’s s 14-11 squad have graduated. But that seems appropriate, because most of the new players were coached by new head coach Rob Whitley. They played for him when he coached the junior varsity the past three seasons.
According to Whitley, there are four varsity returnees and a couple of transfers to bolster the 15-member team that is made up mostly of players from last years’ junior varsity. “We may have a lot of new faces,” said Whitley, “but we still have the same problem – not enough size to out-rebound powerhouses like Pensacola, Pine Forest and Washington. So we’ll continue to rely on our speed and use the run-and-gun offense that outgoing coach David Noles relied on with his undersized teams.
