The University of West Florida Argonauts will play West Alabama at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 2, in the first game of the 2013 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship Tournament at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Argos (34-10 overall, 18-8 in GSC play) are the third-seed in the tournament. They finished the regular season by sweeping three games at West Alabama, extending their current win streak to 11 games. The Tigers (21-28 overall, 13-13 GSC) are the sixth seed. Delta State (38-7-1, 19-4-1) is the tournament’s top seed and ranked second in the most recent Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. UWF is ranked 10th in the same poll and Alabama-Huntsville (33-13-1, 16-6-1), seeded second for the GSC tournament, is 23rd. Valdosta State (29-15, 14-10) is seeded fifth and tied for 29th in the CBN poll.
The top eight eligible GSC teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament for the conference championship. The complete bracket will be available online at www.GSCSports.org.
