Heavy rains caused Saturday’s Tiger Relays at Washington High School in Pensacola to start two hours later than originally planned. Navarre High School’s track and field athletes may as well have stayed home.
The Raiders failed to win a single event and managed just two second-place finishes: The boys’ 4 x 1,600-meter relay finished 32.2 seconds behind Fort Walton Beach’s first-place foursome and high jumper Taylor Hadden cleared 4 feet, 10 inches, two inches shorter than Maya Hampton of Pine Forest.
Third-place finishers for Navarre included the boys’ 4 x 400 relay team, senior Nick Benton in the triple jump and the girls’ 4 x 1,600 relay squad.
Benton, still recovering from a hamstring injury, set the meet’s triple-jump record of 46 feet, 2.25 inches as a junior. He jumped just 40-04.5 inches on Saturday.
The Raiders were scheduled to compete against Pace and Milton on Tuesday at Milton High School and will return to the Washington High School track Saturday for the Washington Invitational, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Listed below are the winners and Navarre participants in each event this weekend:
