Navarre’s Chrissy Parsons qualified to compete in the state swimming championships after a third place finish in the Tallahassee 1-3A regionals 100-yard breast stroke competition and a fourth spot in the 200-yard individual medley.
“Those two finishes automatically qualify Chrissy for the state championships in Orlando, which get under way Thursday, Nov. 13,” said Navarre swim coach Lauris Joyner. “Depending on the finishing times posted in the other regional competitions, we may also see a few other Navarre swimmers move on to the state tournament.”
Parsons’ time of 1:11.14 was less than three seconds behind the winning effort of Mosley’s Sara Evans. Logan Griffith of Fort Walton Beach gained the runner-up spot.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Parsons, a junior, was the highest underclassmen finisher behind three seniors, led by winner Sara Evans.
In the team competition, Navarre was well off the pace as the girls finished in 13th place with 62 points while the boys had to settle for 20th with 28 points.
