Moorer picked to statewide committee

Navarre High School junior Hunter Moorer, left, is one of 12 students selected to the Florida High School Athletics Association Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

The Florida High School Athletic Association has selected Hunter Moorer (above, left), a Navarre High School junior, to serve on its Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

FHSAA staff selected committee members based on academic standing, athletic accomplishments, extracurricular activities and their answers on three essay questions. Moorer is one of 12 students, and the only underclassman, selected to the committee.

Moorer swims, plays soccer and competes in track and field for NHS. She is the daughter of Bowden and Mary Moorer.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee was formed to provide a voice within the FHSAA governance structure for the more than 200,000 participating student athletes throughout the state. The SAAC focuses on current issues facing student athletes, provides input on rules and regulations and FHSAA initiatives, and promotes a positive image of the student athlete.

Topics of discussion at last weekend’s meeting included FHSAA structure, student athlete transfers and eligibility, appeals, recruiting, contest officials, and sportsmanship. Committee members also participated in a roundtable discussion of issues and concerns facing the student athlete.
Committee members will be in communication with each other and FHSAA staff members throughout the school year and will meet again in Gainesville in March 2013.
