Navarre gets state pollsters' attention

Back-to-back road wins against highly regarded Class 6A rivals Pace and Niceville have boosted Navarre into the AP Florida High School Football pollsters’ consciousness. The Raiders, 3-1 overall, earned two votes, tied for 14^th with Daytona Beach Mainland in the latest rankings.

Pace received a single vote for 15^th.

The Pensacola Catholic Crusaders, who will host Navarre on Friday, are undefeated and ranked sixth in Class 3A. Despite its much smaller enrollment and lower class assignment, the Crusaders play a schedule similar to Navarre’s and managed to beat Pensacola 17-15 a week after the Tigers rallied for a 25-24 win against the Raiders. Catholic’s other wins have come against Choctawhatchee, Crestview and Gulf Breeze, all teams Navarre plays later this year.

The West Florida Jaguars also are 4-0 and ranked eighth in Class 5A. Northview, in northern Escambia County, is 3-1 and ranked fourth in Class 1A.
