YMCA adds Weeball to fall schedule

The Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA branch in Navarre is adding fall Weeball to give 3- and 4-year-olds a team sports option after fall soccer.

“About half the kids in our fall soccer program are in that age group,” Doug Johnson, the Navarre branch program director, said last week. “When soccer’s done, they don’t have anything to do.”

Weeball is a variation of teeball adapted for younger children. All the players on each team bat each inning and all the opponent’s players are in the field. Although defensive players are taught to try to get runners out, no outs – or runs – are recorded. The last batter each half inning hits a “home run” and all the players run around the bases.
