Raiders gauge progress at Stampede

PENSACOLA – Navarre High School’s boys’ cross country team finished 11th overall and better than all but four Northwest Florida teams competing Saturday at the Gulf Coast Stampede at the Escambia County Equestrian Center.

Trent Beck (17 minutes, 25.90 seconds), James Mullin (17:51.80) and Jonah Griego (17:56.20) paced the Raiders, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 27th, 46th and 52nd places, respectively, in the field of 298 runners and 36 teams from across the Southeast.

The Fort Walton Beach girls gave the Vikings a Stampede sweep, winning the team title with 85 points. Navarre was 21st with 512 points.

Elle Crouse (79th, 22:30.10), Kylie Foster (83rd, 22:38.80) and Kaitlin Bouchat (95th, 23:08.30) led the Raiders. Carmen Carlos of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Ala., was the fastest runner in the girls’ competition, finishing the 5K course in 18:41.10.
