Navarre netters win third straight

Navarre High School’s volleyball team beat Tate in three games Tuesday to win its third-straight match to start the 2012 season.

Kelsey Belmain led the Raiders’ balanced effort with 10 digs, seven kills and two service aces in the 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 sweep of the Aggies at home.

The win also was Navarre’s third victory against a district opponent. The Raiders opened the season with wins against Milton and Pensacola last week.

The team’s early success has supporters excited: “They’re my favorite sports team right now!” one fan wrote to the social media site Twitter.

Shamani Booker added six kills, five blocks and three aces for Navarre, Allison Freer had 10 digs and three aces, Sarah Betts contributed eight digs and five kills and Kiera Foster had five blocks and three kills.

The Raiders will host junior varsity and varsity matches against Choctawhatchee at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, at the NHS Gym. The match originally was scheduled Aug. 27 but was postponed because of Hurricane Isaac. Navarre travels to Escambia on Thursday for freshmen, JV and varsity matches.
