Raiders’ volleyball season ends with third loss to Gulf Breeze

Navarre High School’s girls’ volleyball season ended in the district championship semifinals last week with a lopsided loss to Gulf Breeze, 25-15, 25-10 and 25-12.

“We just got beat,” said first-year Navarre coach Liz Pardue after the season-ending match Oct. 28. The Raiders couldn’t overcome the play of Lady Dolphin senior Celia Eddy, whose powerful play at the net set the pace for her teammates. Eddy, 6-feet, 3-inches tall, pounded Navarre defenders with 22 kills and rose high above the net to block 12 Lady Raider kills back onto the Navarre side for Gulf Breeze points.

“Teams often gear their strategy to go around Celia,” said Gulf Breeze coach Wayne Sellers, “and Navarre didn’t do that. The results were her overpowering dominance at the net. Twenty-two kills in just three games is a big number.”
