Brothers Hagewood help Cumberland U. win opener

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Brothers and former Raiders Michael and Marquis Hagewood contributed to Cumberland University’s 31-10 season-opening win Saturday against Kansas Wesleyan in the neutral-site Big River Bowl.

Marquis, a freshman wide receiver, caught two passes – one a 51-yard touchdown – for 62 yards and returned a kickoff 20 yards for the Bulldogs. Michael, a redshirt senior strong safety, intercepted a Wesleyan pass and was in on five tackles, four of them solo.

The meeting was the first-ever between the Bulldogs and Kansas Wesleyans Coyotes.

Cumberland, from Lebanon, Tenn., is ranked 22^nd in the most recent NAIA poll. The Bulldogs of Cumberland University will host the similarly named University of the Cumberlands Patriots next week, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
