DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Brothers and former Raiders Michael and Marquis Hagewood contributed to Cumberland University’s 31-10 season-opening win Saturday against Kansas Wesleyan in the neutral-site Big River Bowl.
Marquis, a freshman wide receiver, caught two passes – one a 51-yard touchdown – for 62 yards and returned a kickoff 20 yards for the Bulldogs. Michael, a redshirt senior strong safety, intercepted a Wesleyan pass and was in on five tackles, four of them solo.
The meeting was the first-ever between the Bulldogs and Kansas Wesleyans Coyotes.
Cumberland, from Lebanon, Tenn., is ranked 22nd in the most recent NAIA poll. The Bulldogs of Cumberland University will host the similarly named University of the Cumberlands Patriots next week, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
