The Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association will hold the first Miller Lite Kayak and Paddleboard Fishing Tournament on Saturday at Flounders Chowder House on Pensacola Beach. Cost is $50 per angler and registrations are being taken at Hot Spots Bait & Tackle in Gulf Breeze or beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Flounders. Dinner for all tournament participants will be served at 6:30 p.m. Friday and tournament rules will be reviewed at 7 p.m.
First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded for five species – redfish, speckled trout, flounder, king mackerel and Spanish mackerel.
The first-place winners will be entered into a drawing for a brand new kayak.
There also will be three bonuses: The angler who catches the largest fish from a paddleboard will win a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses; a Yeti cooler will go to the angler who brings in the overall largest fish, regardless of species; and a Go Pro camera will be given to the angler who catches and photographs the largest red snapper. Red snapper currently are out of season, so the fish must be released following the photo.
Anglers can fish from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. The scales will be open from noon-6 p.m. Saturday for those who would like to watch the weigh-ins.
