The Navarre High School girls softball team is starting off the season swinging - and connecting with wins.
Allison 'Cat' Pettigrew and Audrey Thomas combined for a two hit shutout win over Choctaw in an away contest on Feb. 9. Katie McLelland led the Raider offensive attack with three hits and four RBI. Meaghan Redalieu, Sara Beth Marquis, Brooke Murphy and Sarah Wilson each had two hits as the Raiders hit the Indian pitching staff like they were taking batting practice.
Neither team scored until the third inning, when the Raiders exploded for five runs. With two out, Murphy doubled and Pettigrew walked. McLelland doubled home both runners. McLelland stole third and scored on Wilson's single. Wilson took a big lead off of first. When the Indian catcher's throw down to first sailed into right field, Wilson scored on the three base error.
