Navarre High School’s Raiders played well at home Friday against rival Fort Walton Beach, but the defending district champions played like one of Class 4A’s best in a 33-0 rout at Bennett C. Russell Stadium. The Vikings, undefeated and ranked third in the latest Florida Sports Writers Association state Class 4A football rankings, improved to 5-0. Navarre, which won the district title in 2006, fell to 2-4. It was the first district game for both teams.
The Vikings controlled the game with stingy defense and good special teams play until its high-flying aerial attack got untracked. Fort Walton Beach started three of its 13 possessions in Raider territory and its worst starting position was its own 36.
