Coach Mary Moorer has a good feeling about this year’s swim team.
“We have 10 seniors on the team,” said Moorer of the Navarre High School swim team. “For most of them, this is their fourth year on the team.”
Moorer is counting on those seniors to provide leadership for the younger swimmers.
“We have a lot of young swimmers on the team,” she said. “These seniors know what to expect and help the younger swimmers get through the early morning practices while keeping the focus on their academic workload.”
Besides swimming in their own events, most of the seniors also participate in relays.
Raider swimmers are extremely dedicated. During the summer, the team arrived at the YMCA pool at 5:30 a.m. After swimming countless laps, the team left the pool for the football field. The team ran the stadium stairs and laps around the football field. In the evening, they returned to the pool to perfect their strokes.
But this dedicated group continues to roll out of bed hours before sunrise. Now that school is back in session, the practice time has been changed to 4:45 a.m.
