Across the field from the football team practicing in the sweltering heat is another group of hard working athletes. The Navarre High School cheerleaders are also attempting to be ready for the Aug. 26 Football Classic in Milton.
“We have an excellent football team,” said Megan Dexter, team captain. “Our fans deserve a cheerleading squad just as excellent.”
Coach Kathy Owsley has been working hard with the team.
“Team tryouts were completed in May and the 18 member squad attended cheer camp at the University of Central Florida in June,” Owsley said. The team has also been weightlifting every morning at throughout the summer. Once school starts, weightlifting is a required subject for the cheerleaders.
