The Navarre High School girls cross country team missed qualifying for the regional championships by only 7 points last year.
If Elle Crouse, Gianna Gambera and Charlee Beckett have their way, it will not even be close this year. The top three 2010 Raider finishers, will return to finish what they started last season.
Crouse led the Raiders last year as only a sophomore. She consistently covered the 5K distance in less than 21 minutes.
“We were painfully close to placing well enough in the district championships that would have qualified us for the regional meet,” Crouse said. “All we had to do was beat one team. We only lost one or two seniors through graduation. We should be very competitive this year.”
“If we each improve our time this season by 10 – 15 seconds, we could probably pass more than enough opponents to ensure at least a trip to the regional championship,” Gambera said. “The team will definitely be improved over last year.”
Gambera, a senior, had never competed before last season.
