‘Greater to be a Raider’ camp opens for hopeful hoopsters

Kaylin Colvin-Reece, right, gives Maddie Roberts some shooting tips.Basketball camp opened on June 12 at Navarre High School for middle school and incoming freshmen girls.

“Most of the campers are incoming freshmen,” said Dave Noles, coach. “For most of them, this will be their first exposure to basketball at the high school level.”

Players at the middle school level are usually coached by a parent. Practices are limited by gym time and once a week if the team is lucky. Defenses are simple because of the limited practice times.

“It is a whole new world when they reach high school,” Noles said. “There is a lot more time devoted to preparation.”

Members from the Lady Raiders were on hand to work with the campers to give them individual attention. Many remembered when they were incoming freshmen.
