Charlee Beckett was all smiles April 7 while practicing with her fellow pole-vaulters at the Navarre High School track. She should have been because she had just set a personal best 10-foot vault in her previous meet on April 5 (Tri-meet vs. Tate and Pace High Schools).
Beckett told Assistant Track Coach Jeff Knapp that her new goal was 10 feet, 6 inches or maybe even 11 feet.
“Hopefully the wind and the weather will continue to cooperate and I can jump higher,” Beckett said.
In the 16-team Andrews Institute Track and Field Invitational, held April 8 at Gulf Breeze High School Becket did not reach her new goal. Fighting off flu-like symptoms, her 9 foot, 6 inch effort was enough to hold off the rest of the entrants and earn her the win and team points.
Beckett and her Lady Raider teammates finished fifth.
