Run, Raiders, run.
Navarre High School stayed in its spread formation Friday but threw the ball just eight times in a 28-7 win against Milton (1-3). Michael Pettus, in his first start as the Raiders’ quarterback, and running back Kwamane Howard, Pettus’ replacement in the backfield, combined for 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Howard scored on runs of 93 and 65 yards.
Pettus was the Raiders’ leading rusher a year ago. Andrew Velazquez started the first three games at quarterback, but Navarre coach Chad Lashley said the change shouldn’t reflect poorly on the junior.
