The 2011 track and field season started last week with a tri match between Navarre, Milton and Gulf Breeze high schools on Feb. 22.
The boys team took first place and the girls team took second.
The Raiders also competed in the Tiger Relays on Feb. 26 in Pensacola. The meet was held on the brand new rubber track at Washington High School; the only one of its kind in the area.
Both NHS track teams placed second out of 10 schools, and the boys team missed first by only one point.
“It came down to the last event, which was the pole vault. West Florida came in fourth in the event and we came in sixth, giving them the victory,” said Girls Head Coach Joe Austin.
Upcoming meets this week will be March 5 at the Wildcat Invitational in Pensacola at 10 a.m. and March 8 at home competing against West Florida Tech and Pensacola High School at 4:30 p.m.
