When the Lady Raider weightlifters walked into the gym at Choctaw, nine other teams knew any chance of finishing first was over. The “Queens of Weightlifting” had arrived. Navarre’s shirts said it all, “Two times state runner-ups, third time’s the charm.” The Raiders overwhelmed the field, winning 91 points. The next highest team was Choctaw with 46 points. Gulf Breeze finished third with 23 points.
Although the Raiders graduated several team members from last year’s team, they are once again loaded with talent. “We have a very good group of girls again this year,” Coach Aaron Daniel said. “They have worked very hard and were anxious for the season to start.” Although happy with a win, Daniel said they still have some work to do in some of the weight divisions.
