Raiders’ D stops Escambia’s Gators

Navarre High School’s varsity football team’s defense held firm Friday, Oct. 23, leading to a 13-10 win over host Escambia.  It was the second victory of the season for the Raiders, and the first against a district 1-4A opponent.

“Our guys played great defense,” said head coach Chad Lashley, “especially our front four linemen who did a super job of disrupting the Escambia running game.  We won this game in an ugly fashion overcoming a lot of penalties.  Their only touchdown came off a fumble.  Our defense never let them into the end zone.  That is a first for us this year.  Last week our offense showed they can do the job scoring 49 and this time the defense proved how good they can be.

“Our quarterback Andy Velazquez did his best job of the season,” continued Lashley, “by executing plays and keeping our mistakes down.  He spread the ball around and did a good job finding open receivers.”
