Updated: Ballots stolen from South Santa Rosa Service Center

Police are searching for the person or people responsible for a break-in at the South Santa Rosa Service Center between Navarre and Gulf Breeze.

According to Deputy Richard Aloy of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement agents were dispatched to the Service Center, often referred to as the annex, Monday morning in reference to a burglary.

According to video, one suspect entered the building through a side door at about 2:25 a.m. using a crow bar and cutting a fiber optic cable. The suspect walked around the facility, approached a safe and then left. Two suspects returned at about 4:45 a.m. and that’s when the break-in became a burglary. The two suspects used a hand dolly to remove two safes from the service center. The safes contained 35 ballots cast in last week’s special general election for House District 2, a thumb drive and a cell phone.

No motive has yet to be determined for the burglary.

Any information, no matter how minor citizens might consider it, should be reported to Crimestoppers at 437-STOP.
