Country music legend George Jones died Friday in Nashville. He was 81.
Jones had been hospitalized since April 18 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with fever and irregular bloodpressure, which forced him to postpone two shows.
Jones may have been known best for the classic "He Stopped Loving Her Today" but recorded dozens of hits, including top-charting songs in five decades beginning in the 1950s.
Fellow country hitmaker Garth Brooks emailed The Associated Press about Jones' death: "The greatest voice to ever grace country music will never die. Jones has a place in every heart that ever loved any kind of music."
