Hurlburt airman killed in motorcycle accident

A staff sergeant assigned to Hurlburt Field was killed in a motorcycle accident at 1:20 p.m. Dec. 5 in Mary Esther.

Staff Sgt. Richard A. Fofie was an integrated avionics journeyman assigned to 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, according to a Hurlburt Field press release.

"We are a close-knit family and when a tragedy like this occurs, every member of Team Hurlburt feels it,” said Col. Jim Slife, commander of 1st Special Operations Wing. “We share in the sorrow felt by Sergeant Fofie's loved ones during this most difficult time."

The accident is currently under investigation.

According to Fort Walton Beach Police department, the traffic crash occurred at the intersection of Mary Esther Cutoff and Marilyn Avenue. The crash involved a 1996 Cadillac driven by Alan Shaw and Fofie’s motorcycle.

“At this time there is no indication of impairment,” a press release stated. “The investigation is on-going and charges are pending. 

The police department is asking if anyone witnessed the crash to call Officer Sheffield at 833-9546.
