Michael Estes, 57, of Navarre was seriously injured on Nov. 4 after a freight truck hit his vehicle on Interstate 10.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jimmy L. Green, 45, of Middleburg, was driving a freight truck westbound on I-10 at the 19 mile marker in the outside lane.
Estes was parked on the outside shoulder because his 1997 Chevy pickup truck had broken down. While Estes was inside his truck calling for a tow truck when Green’s freight truck failed to drive in the single travel lane and traveled into the emergency lane.
FHP reported that Green tried to brake, but the front right of his truck collided with Estes’ trailer that was carrying a horse. Green’s truck continued to travel and collided with the concrete wall on the north shoulder.
Estes’ horse briefly roamed along the interstate, according to FHP, but it was caught shortly after the accident. Estes was transported to Gulf Breeze Hospital for serious injuries.
Green was no injured and was charged with failure to drive in a single travel lane.
