Escapee from Bridgeway treatment facility robs CVS pharmacy in Navarre.
Louis Michael Riccardi, 22, of Fort Walton Beach, was arrested for the robbery of the CVS pharmacy in Navarre. Sgt. Scott Haines, public information officer for Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, said the incident happened around 10 a.m. Monday morning. "A man went to the pharmacy and slipped a note to the pharmacy and told them they had 20 seconds to comply," he said. "He jumped the counter to get the meds he wanted and three employees at the counter struggled with the guy and were able to restrain him until deputies came. He is now in custody."The head pharmacist told deputies that the suspect produced a note demanding oxycontin. Riccardi had his hands in his pockets at the time and did not display a weapon, according to a press release.After 20 seconds, he jumped over the counter and demanded to know the location of the oxycontin. When he bent over to retrieve the oxycontin, the head pharmacist grabbed him around the neck and began to struggle with him on the floor, the press release said.
Another pharmacist then assisted in trying to restrain the suspect and the store manager also came to their aid and helped subdue Riccardi, according to the press release.
During the altercation, the bottles of oxycontin broke open and scattered on the floor. The suspect ingested 10 oxycontin during the struggle.Riccardi was transported to Gulf Breeze Hospital to be treated for the ingestion of the narcotics. The head pharmacist was also transported to the hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.The assisting pharmacist was treated at the scene for a hand injury. The store manager was not injured.Riccardi had not been booked at the time of the press release.CVS management declined to make any statements.
