Escaped convict caught in Navarre

Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested an escaped convict last night after he reportedly broke into the First Baptist Church in Navarre.

Sgt. Scott Haines, SRSO public information officer, said four convicts escaped from the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Alabama on Saturday. The man arrested last night was 27-year-old Wesley Lee Gibson, one of the convicts that escaped. He said he may have been accompanied by the other escapees.

Haines said the sheriff’s office was still looking for Ricky Dewayne Lawson, 27, and Robert Lee Brown, 20. The fourth inmate Damien Lee Nix has also been caught.

“Residents should keep their eyes open for these men, close their windows and lock their doors,” Haines said.
