Isaac makes landfall, Santa Rosa still cautious

ŸDue to the public safety hazard created by a large number of sightseers on Navarre Beach, the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office will limit access to Navarre Beach to residents, employees of Navarre Beach businesses, and visitors who can provide

documentation of a Navarre Beach rental, from 6:30 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29.

Some fast facts about Hurricane Isaac as the storm made landfull and travels through south Louisiana:

  • The eye of Hurricane Isaac passed over a C-MAN weather instrument station 24 miles south of Venice in the Gulf of Mexico at 6:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Winds in the eye were measured at only 21 mph.
  • A wind gust of 92 mph was measured at 7:15 p.m. on an Apache Co. oil platform located on Mississippi Canyon block 311A. The instrument was more than 270 feet above the water's surface, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Sustained winds of 67 mph and a gust of 85 mph were measured at 7:12 p.m. on Grand Isle, the National Weather Service says.
