Two Gulf Breeze residents were seriously injured in an early morning accident on U.S. Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze today.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Chauncey Leon Boone, 50, of Riverdale, Ga., was driving a semi-truck eastbound near Portside Drive this morning and was approaching a red light.
Jessica Lee Hines, 27, of Gulf Breeze was driving a Honda Odyssey with Shaun Michael White, 5, in the vehicle and was stopped at the red light.
The FHP report stated that the semi failed to stop and hit the rear of the Honda Odyssey. The impact sent the Odessey off of the south shoulder about 300 feet from the initial collision. The semi stopped just east of the intersection on the south shoulder.
Boone told FHP that he attempted to stop, but his foot slipped off the brake pedal and wedged against the accelerator. The report stated there were no skid marks in the roadway and Boone would be charged with careless driving.
Hines and White were both transported to Sacred Heart Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. A second passenger in the Odyssey, Mason Alexander Clark, 1, was not injured in the accident. The Odyssey had about $12,000 worth of damage.
