UPDATED: Local soldier killed in Afghanistan

A local Navarre man was killed in action in Afghanistan on Nov.16. U.S. Army PFC Matthew Colin was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 

The family confirmed that they were notifiied of Colin's death late on Nov. 16.

Colin's body is scheduled to arrive in Dover at 3:30 p.m. today, Nov. 17. His family will escort his remains home to Navarre.

Brian Noack, principal of Navarre High School, issued the following statement:

"“Matt paid the ultimate sacrifice to the country he loved, and the freedoms that we so often take for granted. Words cannot express the gratitude and the pride that Matt has brought to his country, his school, and his community.”
