From the Santa Rosa County Public Information Office:
The future of the Navarre Town Center Plan will be discussed at two public meetings on Thursday, August 25.
The board will discuss zoning board and other recommendations for the plan at the 9 a.m. Santa Rosa Board of County Commissioners regular meeting and at a special rezoning meeting at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the commission meeting room located at 6495 Caroline Street in Milton. The meetings will include discussions on changes that should occur in the Heart of Navarre section of the Navarre Town Center Plan. Public hearings addressing changes to the Town Center -1 and Town Center-2 sections of the plan will be scheduled for September and October. The public is encouraged to attend or view Thursday’s meetings online at www.santarosa.fl.gov/bocc/meetings.html.
The Navarre Town Center Plan was directed and developed by the public and adopted by the board of commissioners in 2004 as a response to growth demands in the area. The purpose of the plan was to develop a vision for the future of Navarre, determine how and where growth and development can and should occur, establish guidelines for development, recommend priorities and financing alternatives. Currently, the only parts of the plan that are being utilized are the regulatory recommendations, specifically the land use and architectural standards. The land use section regulates the types of businesses recommended for the area. For example, industrial facilities, pawn shops and storages businesses are not recommended. The architectural standards direct the "look" of the area and can include rules for landscaping, signs, siding, colors and other cosmetic details.
