Boom stolen from Escambia Bay

Lance Thayer, an employee with First in Rescue Safety and Training out of Deer

Park Texas, came to the Escambia Sheriff’s Office yesterday and reported that

3400 feet of orange oil containment boom had gone missing from the south end of

the Bob Sikes Bridge on Pensacola Beach.

Thayer stated the boom is valued at

approximately $68,000 dollars. According to Thayer, who has been contracted by

BP Corporation to assist in the oil clean up, other boom is missing from the 3 mile

bridge area also. Thayer stated it is not uncommon for boom to go missing and

then the thieves try to resell it or lease it at another location. The boom is owned by

Eagle SWS Environmental Co. Thayer stated the company checked the

surrounding waterways to see if the boom had broke loose but was unable to locate

it.
