At the Feb. 25 Santa Rosa County School Board meeting, Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick declared the day "Military Recognition Day" in the county's schools.
Citing 31 years of the military's partnering with the school district, the proclamation expressed gratitude to 13 Navy and Air Force commands that have volunteered "countless hours" to help county students and teachers.
The military first began volunteer service to area schools in 1980, when NAS Whiting Field offered its help.
Also mentioned was the military's "generosity" in sharing "many if its facilities with Santa Rosa schools and with district events."
