The Santa Rosa School Board expelled for one calendar year two Navarre High students who were in possession of a firearm on school grounds last month.
Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick recommended for both students the year's expulsion, which was unanimously approved by the Board.
In December, the two students allegedly handled the gun in a campus restroom, with one of the boys taking a picture of it with his phone camera.
Wyrosdick said that, to his knowledge, this is the only incident of firearms violation that the school system has had since he took office a little over a year ago.
