Nashville Country Recording Artist Daron Norwood will be appearing at the American Legion Post 0382 at 1850 Luneta, Navarre Florida in an  event  Friday,  5 September  from 7-11 and continue performing until 3pm Saturday during an “open to the public” Pig roast ($8 a plate) until 7pm when he will be joined by local Pensacola Beach sensation “Zoe”  until 11pm.  During the pig roast a lawn mower will be raffled off.  The event will be sponsored by the American Legion Riders of the post who will be performing a charity poker run Saturday morning and returning approximately 2:30-3pm Saturday. Daron Norwood has sung with Travis Tritt, Alabama, Darryl Worley, Faith Hill, Diamond Rio, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Tim McGraw.  He wrote his first song at age 10 and since has recorded 3 gospel and 1 country album.  He was performing at the Grand Ole Opry and recorded his first solo song in 1993.  He has recorded at least four top twenty hits and co-wrote /recorded the song “little Boy Lost” for the Keith Whitley tribute album which went platinum.  In 1995 he walked away from fame and fortune for God, family and country and with his wife Kim created “Keep it straight”, a program that warns people of all ages about the dangers of alcohol, substance abuse and violence.  Since then he has shared this program with over 500,000 school children across the Southeast and countless adults in concerts, church programs, and fund raising events.  Most recently “keep it straight” has been adopted by the United States Air Force Air Combat Command as their drug and alcohol abuse intervention program of choice and keeps Daron traveling to Air Force bases across the country for concerts presenting his program not only to0 Air Force personnel but to the local area schools as well.  He has been recognized for his talent and commitment to a better American by performing before the President of the United States on multiple occasions and has shared the stage with him as well.  Daron, his wife Kim and daughter Delayney make their home in Northwest Florida.  He will also perform at the local Navarre Park Oktoberfest on October 4th sponsored by the Legion and shared with the University of Florida Extension Service “Coastal Encounter” which will be an event the entire family will enjoy .  There will be something for everyone with schools and other agencies participating including a petting zoo, a marine touch tank and bouncey castles for the kids and a separate “Oktoberfest” beer tent (kept well separated from other activities).  Brats hot dogs and sodas will be available and other performers are expected to share the stage with Daron.

Funds raised will be used within our own community for charities and scholarships which the local American Legion is known for.  The American Legion is a non-profit veterans organization dedicated to "veterans helping veterans" and community service.  For more information contact the post at 936-5888.
