According to the National Hurricane Center and Mobile National Weather Service, TD#4 is now Topical Storm Claudette, and is expected to make landfall east of the Destin area this evening around 6 to 8 p.m. Current forecasted impacts to Santa Rosa County include heavy rains of 3-5 inches, storm surge of 3-5 feet, and 40-45 mph winds. Localized heavy rainfalls with slight chances of isolated tornadoes are possible through tomorrow.
Santa Rosa County’s Emergency Operation Center will not activate for Tropical Storm Claudette unless the forecasted track or area impacts change. However, Santa Rosa County Emergency Management will continue to monitor the storm, participate in weather and state EOC conference calls, and emergency management staff will be on stand by should conditions change. Additionally, residents with questions or concerns may call Santa Rosa County Emergency Communication’s non-emergency line at (850) 983-5372. Residents are urged to monitor the local media for the most up-to-date information and use this as a time to make sure your storm preparations are complete as the tropics are expected to be extremely active over the next two weeks.
