Power restored to most customers

Gulf Power had restored electrical power to more than 2,600 customers in Navarre and Navarre Beach by 6 p.m. Friday, according to a spokesman.

A car accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Blue Tip Drive about 3 p.m. Friday, snapped a utility pole, damaging two major feeder lines. Jeff Rogers of Gulf Power said the accident caused 2,880 customers to lose power, but only 163 customers in the immediate area of the accident were without service three hours after the accident.

Rogers said it might take another two to four hours to restore power to the remaining out-of-service customers.

“They couldn’t do any switching along that strip, they have to replace the pole,”  he said.

The driver, 16-year-old Alexandra Parmer, and her passenger, Kaleigh Tolbert, 18, suffered injuries from an electrical current, but the car, a Toyota Yaris, caromed back onto U.S. 98 and continued westward before coming to rest. Lifeguard Ambulance transported the girls to Gulf Breeze Hospital. Information about their condition was not immediately available.
