Fort Walton infant dies of shaken baby syndrome

A Fort Walton Beach infant on life support since being severely injured last January died today (Saturday) at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

The infant's father, 19-year old Steven Allen Taylor of 675 Denton Blvd, Lot #3, had originally been charged with aggravated child abuse. This evening he was arrested on an open count of murder.
Allen originally told investigators he was giving his two-month old son a bath January 22nd and left him unattended to go pause a video game. He says when he returned, the child had slipped under the water. He put the boy in a crib and then says he shook the child after noticing the baby was unresponsive. Allen went to a neighbor's home and the neighbor drove them to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Doctors however said Cory Taylor-Becvar's injuries were not consistent with a mild shaking as if to elicit a response. The victim had bleeding on his brain, a fractured skull, and three fractured ribs.
Allen is being held at the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
