Over-water testing

Emerald Coast beach-goers can expect to see the Air Force conduct some over-water testing with the CV-22 Osprey’s this week.

The 413th Flight Test Squadron, an Air Force Materiel Command unit based here, will be conducting CV-22 salt water operations testing for Eglin Air Force Base’s 46th Test Wing from March 16-20.     The schedule currently has flights scheduled for Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen issues.  The planned area of operations extends from Eglin Test Sites A-2 to A-5 on Okaloosa Island, near the Eglin Beach Club, and four miles off shore.

The testing profile requires the squadron to conduct salt water approaches at 10 feet over the water and 10 knots for 30 seconds. Three to four approaches will be conducted during each flight.  A U.S. Coast Guard safety boat will also be present at the test site.
