A nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus will be on display at the Capitol through the holiday season. A private group called the Florida Nativity Scene Committee will install the display at noon Tuesday.
FLORIDA GOV. PUSHES DISTRICTS AGAIN ON PAY RAISE
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is asking school superintendents once again to finalize pay raises for teachers. Scott on Monday sent out a letter pointing out that 28 districts have finalized pay raises, while another 15 districts have reached tentative agreements over the raises. Florida has 67 school districts.
TAMPA CONVENTION CENTER AFFECTED BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The Tampa Convention Center lost four large events this calendar year — all of them connected to either the federal government shutdown or the sequester — and is looking for ways to reverse the damage. This year, the center may need a $90,000 bailout from taxpayers when the city closes its books on the current budget next fall.
DUI DEATH RETRIAL DELAYED FOR FLORIDA POLO MOGUL
The DUI manslaughter retrial of a South Florida polo mogul has been delayed to give defense lawyers more time to argue pretrial issues. A judge decided to postpone until late February at the earliest a second trial for John Goodman in the 2010 death of Scott Patrick Wilson.
BUSCH GARDENS ANNOUNCES NEW AREA
Busch Gardens in Tampa is revamping part of the park to coincide with the opening of its new 335-foot drop tower. Officials say the park's Timbuktu area will become Pantopia. The jewel-themed area will have a renovated theater, new bakery and snack spots. The renovation will mark the spring opening of Falcon's Fury, which park officials say will be the tallest freestanding drop tower in North America.
