County's spay, neuter program already filled

Due to the overwhelming response, Santa Rosa County Animal Services will no longer be accepting applications for its low cost spay and neuter program.

The original deadline was set for Aug. 15. However, so many residents have applied that all available appointments with participating veterinarians are booked.

More than 300 animals will be sterilized because of the program, which will reduce the number of animals euthanized at the county’s overcrowded shelter.

Through the Florida Animal Friend, Inc. license plate grant program, Santa Rosa County offered income-eligible residents who currently own a pet the opportunity to pay only $20 for dogs and $15 for cats for spaying or neutering services with a participating veterinarian.
