Two Navarre men were arrested after a bullet passed within two feet of an officer responding to a criminal mischief/firearms complaint.

Tyler and Nicholas Hulick, 19 and twin brothers, were arrested on charges of improper exhibition of a firearm, discharging a firearm in public and shooting into a dwelling, according to a report issued by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges came after a deputy sergeant arrived at the 8100 block of Pompano Street in reference to a complainant with two bullet holes in his garage door. While the homeowner and sergeant were inspecting the damage “a high-velocity bullet passed within two feet of the sergeant and struck the garage door,” the report stated.

The sergeant sought cover for himself and the homeowner immediately and called for backup. The backup units located four subjects in the backyard of another residence on the street.

The Hulicks had been firing a .22 caliber rifle at a can and a tree in the backyard, and according to the report, one of the subjects said Tyler “nearly hit someone” and to “not shoot again.” Nicholas then picked up the gun stating, “I wanna shoot some guns,” and fired between four and six shots in the same direction.

The report stated that deputies could tell that from where Nicholas was standing, there was a clear line of sight to the residence with bullet holes in its garage door.

The other two subjects did not fire the rifle.

Both brothers were arrested and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail.
