Accident gives spring breakers unexpected memory

The driver of this vehicle ran a red light and caused a three-car accident.Four spring breakers had more adventure than they bargained for when they were involved in a three-vehicle accident on March 15.

At about 8: 20 p.m., Mary Grace Aguilar Chaves, 31 of Mary Esther, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 98 approaching State Road 399, also known as Navarre Beach Causeway. Meanwhile Raymond Woodward Engle, 53 of Navarre, was completing a left turn from westbound U.S. 98 to southbound SR 399, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Aguilar Chaves ran the red light and struck Engle’s vehicle as it was turning. The impact caused the vehicle to strike the car with Kaitlyn Hamilton, 20; Ashley Morgan, 20; Natalie Cantwell, 21; and Lauren Weare, 21, who were stopped at the traffic light on northbound U.S. 98. The students were on spring break from their university in Oklahoma. None were injured, and the vehicle sustained minor damage, according to the release.

Aguilar Chaves, Engle and his passenger, Cheryl Ann Schell, reported minor injuries, but none sought medical attention.

Aguilar Chaves was charged with failure to stop at a steady red light, according to the FHP report.
