Ft. Barrancas closes temporarily

Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent Daniel R. Brown announced

today that Fort Barrancas will temporarily close beginning Tuesday, October 12,

for the resurfacing of the trail from the visitor center into the fort. The fort will

reopen when the trail work is completed. The estimated reopening date is

Wednesday, October 20. During the closure, the visitor center will remain open

from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and ranger guided tours of Advanced Redoubt will be

offered daily at 2:00 p.m. Superintendent Brown also said, "We are sorry for the

inconvenience, however the resurfaced trail should be a significant improvement.
