One of the most popular brands of infant formula is being recalled due to possible bug contamination.
Drugmaker Abbott Laboratories announced Wednesday it would voluntarily recall more than a million containers of its Similac-brand formula because it suspects the formula may be contaminated with bug parts.
The recall includescertain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers and in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
Though the U.S. Food and Drug Administration determined there wasn't an immediate health risk, there is a possibility that babies who ingest the formula could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal upset.
To immediately find out if the product in your possession is included in this recall, parents and caregivers should visit www.similac.com/recall/lookup, and type in their lot number to determine if their product is affected, or call (800) 986-8850.
Manufacturers have said that liquid formulas are not impacted by the recall.
